Study Uses Ultrasound Technology to Visualize LFCN

Seasoned investor Michael T. Jackson is a former resident of Belvedere, California, who currently lives in Florida. Since moving from Belvedere, Michael T. Jackson has founded Napa Medical Research Foundation (NMRF), an organization dedicated to supporting clinical research to develop new medical treatments for patients with orthopedic, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr. Marko Bodor, Director of NMRF’s research team, is currently enrolling participants for a study to determine the optimal angle for viewing and administering treatment to the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN), using a high-precision ultrasound machine. This will improve treatment outcomes for patients with Bernhardt-Roth syndrome, a neurologic disorder caused by the compression of the LFCN. The condition is characterized by tingling and burning sensations in the outer thigh.

Traditionally, patients with Bernhardt-Roth syndrome are prescribed painkillers and antidepressants to alleviate pain. In more serious cases, surgery is recommended to decompress the LFCN. However, because of the nerve’s small size and complicated extension from the lower spine to the thigh, it is hard for doctors to pinpoint the area of compression. Dr. Bodor’s study seeks to solve this problem by using high-precision ultrasound technology to help doctors visualize and map out the LFCN to administer treatments more effectively.
